A bit about me
I’m Emily, I’m in my 20s, and I live in London. I’m one of those cliche Aussies who swapped a beachy sunshine-filled lifestyle for the London rat race. Call me young and foolish, but I was so excited by the prospect of travelling and living overseas, I hadn’t even considered how difficult it was going to be to leave home behind. While friends and family are attending engagement parties, weddings and baby showers, I seem to have taken the non-traditional route or what I like to call ‘The Detour’.
To make up for missing major life events back home, I’ve kept myself pretty busy. I’ve visited over 20 countries since moving here in 2022. I’m not embarrassed to admit, I’ve carried out many of the classic tourist rituals - wearing a beret to the Eiffel Tower, buying fake luxury goods in Istanbul and making fresh pasta in Positano. But for me, it’s not really about ticking off a bucket list, my heart truly lies in nature. Most of my favourite trips involve some element of beach, mountain or desert, and I prefer to take the scenic route, even if that involves sleeping in a van on the side of a motorway.
If you’re looking for travel tips, recommendations, or an insight into Aussie life in London, I’m no expert, but I think I could teach you a trick or two.
